The Postgraduate Contemporary Women's Writing Network (PGCWWN) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funding under the Collaborating Training - Student Led Initiative Scheme. The Postgraduate Contemporary Women's Writing Network (PGCWWN) is a cross-institutional, student-led network that aims to bring together postgraduate scholars researching contemporary women's writing, that is, writing by women from the 1970s to the present day. The award will support a range of PGCWWN initiatives, including the 2009 'Writing Bodies/Reading Bodies' conference hosted by the University of Oxford and the development of a network newsletter which will contain event reports, book reviews, and calls for papers and contributions relevant to the field of contemporary women's writing. The bid for this award has been led and supported by the School of English at the University of Leicester, which will also host the first PGCWWN networking event, scheduled for autumn 2010.

The PGCWWN aims to:

  • foster collaboration between postgraduate students in the exciting and continuously developing field of contemporary women's writing;
  • advance postgraduate research and debate on the issues surrounding this field through conferences, symposia, etc;
  • provide a forum for postgraduate students (nationally and internationally) engaged in research in this field;
  • act as a platform for doctoral students as emerging scholars to develop research, training and knowledge transfer skills in anticipation of their progress into academia.
